On the occasion of World Cancer Day, a special awareness seminar was organized at Baba Farid University of Health Sciences under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Dr. Rajeev Sood, a recipient of the prestigious Dr. B.C. Roy Award.
The seminar was held in the Cancer Department, where medical experts shared detailed insights about cancer symptoms, prevention, and modern treatment methods with attendees.
Speaking at the event, Head of the Cancer Department Dr. Pradeep Garg emphasized that people should not fear cancer but fight it with courage. He noted that early detection, especially in the first stage, significantly increases the chances of complete recovery.
Dr. Romi Kant Grover raised awareness about cancers related to the digestive system and intestines, highlighting the importance of timely diagnosis and lifestyle changes.
Dr. Simrandeep Singh warned about the dangers of oral and throat cancers, urging people to avoid harmful habits and seek early medical consultation.
Focusing on women’s health, Dr. Shipra Garg spoke about cervical cancer and recommended HPV vaccination for girls above nine years of age, noting that it is now available at affordable rates in India.
Dr. Sarabjot Kaur provided information on breast cancer symptoms and encouraged women to consult doctors immediately if they notice any unusual signs, without hesitation.
Principal Dr. Sanjay Gupta highlighted that the hospital is conducting free screening camps in remote and underprivileged areas through a cancer van initiative.
Medical Superintendent Dr. Neetu Kakkar informed that the hospital offers world-class facilities, including radiotherapy, chemotherapy, surgery, PET-CT, and MRI services.
She also mentioned that cashless treatment is being provided under government schemes like the Chief Minister Cancer Relief Fund and Ayushman Bharat, ensuring better access to healthcare for patients.
The event was also attended by Registrar Arvind Kumar and several other officials, marking a significant effort toward spreading awareness and strengthening cancer care services in the region.
