In a significant breakthrough, Mohali Police have solved a major theft case and arrested four accused, including a woman. The police also recovered stolen gold jewellery, cash, a weapon, and other valuables from the suspects.
Speaking at a press conference, SP City Dilpreet Singh stated that the operation was carried out under the guidance of SSP Harmandeep Singh Hans and other senior officials. The case pertains to a theft reported on February 14, 2026, in Sector-77, Mohali.
The complaint was filed by Parshottam Vashisht, a resident of Sunam in Sangrur district. He informed the police that while attending a family wedding, a suitcase containing jewellery and valuables was stolen from his room.
Based on his statement, a case was registered at Sohana Police Station under relevant sections of the law. Police immediately began an investigation considering the seriousness of the crime.
During the probe, special teams from Sohana Police Station and CIA staff were formed. These teams used technical inputs and human intelligence to track down the accused.
The operation was led by Inspector Harminder Singh and supervised by senior officers, including SP (Investigation) Saurav Jindal and SP (Operations) Talwinder Singh Gill, along with other officials.
Police successfully arrested most of the accused on March 11, 2026, from McLeodganj in Himachal Pradesh, while another suspect was apprehended near a bus stand in Ludhiana.
During interrogation, it was revealed that one of the accused, Neha Dhamija, had been working as a baby care worker at the complainant’s residence for the past few months and had prior knowledge of the valuables.
She allegedly planned the theft with her associates and executed it. The accused also admitted to purchasing an illegal pistol and ammunition from Madhya Pradesh using the stolen money.
Police recovered around 37 tolas of gold jewellery, ₹1.5 lakh in cash, a .30 bore pistol with two live cartridges, along with furniture, electronic items, and the Swift Dzire car used in the crime. The accused are currently in police remand, and further investigation is ongoing.
